Day 5,
September 22

I’m writing this log a day late, so this particular run happened yesterday. In fact I already finished today’s run and today’s log.

I don’t have much to say about yesterday’s run. If you plotted my route on a map, it would look like a figure 8. I’d wasted a lot of the day on failed artistic pursuits, since it was a Friday and I’d just spent everyday of the last week preparing for lecture I’d given on Thursday, so it felt ok to have a day without any success. Time passed too quickly, and by the time I was satisfied with my failure, it was already dark out. Xiaoxi was djing at 10, and I wanted to spend at least an hour studying, so I did another short run, even though this was day three of “rest runs”. The path took me onto Huaihai Road, from the intersection at Anshun Road to the intersection with Hongqiao Road, then up along Kaixuan Road. The night view of the stretch of Anshun road I ran on inspired me to run it again today, where you can read more detailed descriptions of it and Huaihai Road (which at this particular section has very similar flavor).

Once I got back I took a shower and made Tomato Egg to go with the asparagus and potatoes Xiaoxi had made. We had dinner while watching The Wire, which Xiaoxi wanted to see in order to get an idea of what Baltimore was like.

That concludes the log for day 5.
